A composite picture of the Estrellas (made from 3 photos). Its not easy to get 20 some miles into 800 dots. This map was my first attempt to map the skyline. Photo taken from 51st Ave south of Baseline using 35mm film and scanner.

SIERRA ESTRELLA: Detailed Map and Main Points of Interest

Anyway here are a few pictures and maps of the region. Most modern maps are pretty much the same. They are all based on data from US Geological survey teams. There is a separate page on this site for copies of old charts of the Maricopa-Phoenix region, from 1600 to 1900.

I would like someday to make a treasure map of the Estrellas, identifying old treasure locations from "Lost mine and treasure" books (There ain't none! but it is interesting!). I have even had E-mails from Australia asking about Montezuma's Treasure in the Estrellas. Another thing I would like to research is old plane crash sites in the mountains.

Middle section of the Estrellas, from same photo above.

p3. My brother gave me 3-D map of Phoenix. This is a picture of the Estrella region from directly east.

p4. Same 3-D map, from above.

p5. Once again, the 3-D map, but all flat plain areas have been whited, leaving only elevations color-coded.

p7. Good satellite photo of Phoenix area. See next figure for identifiers for main landmarks and cities.

p6. Names and landmarks added for photo above.

p8. One of my favorites. An old map (1930s?) from a back room in Monti's Restaurant in Tempe. Compare it to satellite photo (p7).
